How a Puppet from Ancient Italian Folklore Transformed My Story

In May of 2022 after a six week long journey in my mentor Tricia Brouk’s Speaker Salon, I took to the stage of NYC’s Triad Theater with 7 other brave Souls to share La Befana’s Gift: The Story of a Woman, Puppet, & a Community.

It was a deeply healing & transformative experience to take to the stage in this way and to share a story that in many ways I feel I was born to tell.

Back in 2020 toward the start of the pandemic, I joined Tricia Brouk’s Big Talk Academy with a sense that there was a story in me that needed to be told, what I didn’t know is that I was still in the midst of living that story.

While patience isn’t necessarily a virtue of mine, this process of taking a story that was born in the streets of Harlem to the stage of the Triad Theater made me realize that there is great power in the living and telling of our own true stories.

And now that the journey of bringing this story from the street to the stage is complete, (well—-at least the first iteration of the telling of this story) my journey building La Befana’s Table is just beginning.
